I feel at a loss searching for people to add as contacts, if we could tag ourselves like Ziki it would be easier, Jaiku could even recommend people

Another good point. Discovering people and adding contacts is still pretty underdeveloped and there's a lot to be done here. We'll start by making it easier to add people who are already your contacts on other services. The plan is to also introduce other ways to discover interesting people on Jaiku, e.g. by location and possibly also using tags, but that is something we can't promise yet.
